FAQ - Ducks at Decadence
-
I'm a first time guest, what can I expect?
We have a special FAQ section just for you. Please review this section, but also scroll down, and you’ll see some questions that pertain just to our First Time Guests.
-
Is this a bear run?
No, this is not a bear run, or a “run” at all. What you are doing is booking a discounted rate hotel room with Decadent Ducks, and getting a number of events at no charge included. There are some events that are an additional charge, but we clearly indicate that on the events schedule. Reserve your room, and there’s no additional charges from Decadent Ducks.
-
When do I pay for my room?
When you make your reservation, we collect a credit card as a guarantee, and nothing is charged to your card. You pay for your room directly to the hotel upon arrival. Should you choose to donate to our charity, Food For Friends, your card is charged around August 1.
-
Where is the hotel located?
The Omni Royal Orleans is in the heart of the French Quarter and located at 621 St. Louis Street, about a 5 minute walk from the gay bars. You can see their location on a map here.
-
How many guests stay with the Decadent Ducks at this hotel?
Each year we have over 400 guests staying with us at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel.
-
I'm going alone, is it hard to meet people?
Southern Decadence, with over 150,000 people in town is hard to meet people, which is why Decadent Ducks have created smaller events just for our guests where you can meet other Ducks to hang out with, make meal plans and make lifelong friends.
-
Do you have restaurant recommendations?
We have a special app just for our guests with restaurant and tourist attraction recommendations. You can always ask Troy or Bob for personal recommendations as well.
-
Can I invite guests who aren't staying at the Omni to Duck Events?
Duck events that take place at a public bar are open to anyone. Our events that take place at the hotel, such as our pool parties are only open to Omni guests, and there is no way to invite or add additional guests. The Omni issues registered guests a wrist band which is required for entry.
-
I called the hotel, but they don't have my reseravtion.
We have a group contract with the hotel, and all reservations are managed by Decadent Ducks / Dabbler Travel. All changes, cancellations and special requests must be handled by Decadent Ducks. The hotel will have your personal information about a week prior to our arrival. If you have a special request, please reply to the email confirmation you received when you made your hotel reservation.
-
Is the pool clothing optional?
No. We do not have the entire hotel, and regular guests are sharing the hotel. For this reason, please refer to our Code of Conduct and respect other guests in public spaces.
-
Are women invited to join Decadent Ducks?
We welcome everyone at Decadent Ducks, and guests who are not respectful to all guests are politely invited to not reserve with us in future years.
-
What is included in the hotel room rate?
We have a number of events that are included at no charge, and have a cash bar, and sometimes Troy will buy everyone a drink or two at those events. We organize the events as opportunities for you to meet other Guests and socialize. On our event schedule we make every effort to indicate which events require tickets, advance reservations, etc.
-
Do I check in with Ducks when I arrive?
There is no need to check in and there is no Hospitality Suite for Ducks. The Penthouse, room 766 is the center of operations for the weekend, and you can find Troy and Bob there at times. You can get information through the Yapp App, or at any of the scheduled events. Don’t forget to pick up your Ducks wristband to get discounts at local venues through the weekend.
-
Where can I get more information about Decadence?
It can be difficult to find information in one place, but there are a few websites you can check out. www.southerndecadence.com www.southerndecadence.net and www.southerndecadenceparade.com all have a variety of information about Southern Decadence.
-
What's the story on Decadence Weekend Passes?
There is no such thing as a Weekend Pass for Decadence, just passes for individual bars. They grant you “VIP” access to the bar you purchase the pass for, and other perks. There is always big debate on their value as the bars get so crowded that even VIP Patrons wait in lines to get into bars during peak nights.

Is Southern Decadence just a big sex party?
Southern Decadence is whatever you make of it. New Orleans has so much to offer, depending on what you are looking for. If you want to dance the night away to nationally known DJs, you can. If you want to experience some of the best food you’ve ever had, you can. There are also tourist attractions you won’t find anywhere else, some at no cost!
-
I'm sober, is this event right for me?
We coordinate daily Friends of Bill W. meetings in the hotel for our sober friends. New Orleans has so much to offer in the way of attractions, food and socializing in the street during Decadence.

Where are the bars?
You can find gay bars scattered throughout the city, but on Bourbon Street, you can find Oz and Bourbon Pub at 800 and 801 Bourbon Street. Use this as a central point to start from. This will be the epi-center of action for most of the weekend. See the event schedule for what’s happening at other bars around the city.
